iPhone charging port repair: your real options

A USB-C iPhone that only charges at one angle usually has a worn port, not a dead one. Here's every route, cheapest first.

Sound familiar?

If you recognise two or more of these, your USB-C port is worn — not your cable.

  • The cable falls out if you bump or move the phone
  • It only charges when you hold the cable at one exact angle
  • You prop the cable up with a book, pillow, or your keys
  • It charges overnight, but only if nothing touches it
  • You've started sleeping with the phone on the floor so the cable stays in
  • You're already pricing out a repair or a new phone
Fix it for $14.99

Five options, cheapest first

1. Clean the port first

Free, five minutes, and it fixes more loose-port cases than people expect. Power the iPhone off, lift compacted lint out with a wooden toothpick, finish with compressed air. Never use metal.

2. Hold the cable seated — $14.99

If the port is loose rather than dead, Life C-Port™ clamps your USB-C cable behind the connector so it stays fully seated. No downtime, no appointment, and 30-day returns if it doesn't solve it.

3. Independent repair shop — $80–150

A good shop can replace the charging assembly in a day or two. Ask whether they use genuine or aftermarket parts, and whether Face ID and water resistance are preserved.

4. Apple service — $99–199

Genuine parts and a warranty on the repair, but the slowest and usually the most expensive route. Book through Apple Support or an Apple Authorised Service Provider.

5. Insurance or upgrade — $99–1,000+

Only worth it if the iPhone has other problems. Replacing a healthy phone over a charging port is the most expensive fix available.

When it won't help

We would rather you skip the purchase than be disappointed.

  • If the port's internal contacts are broken or corroded, no external holder can fix that — you need a repair.
  • Thick rugged or wallet cases raise the phone too far off the base. Slim cases are fine.
  • Phones with an off-center USB-C port may sit at a slight angle.
  • It holds the cable in the port; it does not repair the port itself.
